How To Train A Rottweiler: A Guide

Spread the love

Do you have a Rottweiler that is hard to learn, or are you thinking about getting one for your family? Your Rottweiler doesn’t follow your commands or defies them for no reason. Do you worry that your Rottweiler will become angry? This guide might help you if you said yes to any of these questions.

It’s challenging to juggle job, family, and fitness commitments. Commands are easily forgotten, especially if they were only used in your living room this morning. It doesn’t mean the dog will remember it when you take them to the park or back yard.

1. Begin Young

It’s critical to begin Rottweiler training as soon as possible. I highly advise that you start your puppy’s training right away. If you start training your puppy between the ages of 6 weeks and 6 months, you’ll have the most success. If you have a Rottweiler that is older, it may take more time, effort, and patience on your part.

Don’t be discouraged by this! The Rottweiler is recognized for its strength and intelligence. They want to make you happy, so don’t be disappointed if your Rottweiler is older or unskilled.

2. Understand Dominance

The goal of dominance-based training is to teach the dog strict regulations in order to enhance his conduct. The term “dominance” is frequently overused and misapprehended in dog training. We don’t need to show dominance over our dogs; we just need to be kind and cautious in our interactions.

There are a variety of things you can do to encourage excellent Rottweiler conduct without being aggressive with the dog. You must never show anger towards your dog. If you believe that striking your dog will demonstrate your authority and dominance over him or her, you are training the incorrect way.

3. Socializing Your Rottweiler

It’s vital that your Rottweiler feels comfortable among both people and animals. It’s easy to achieve this by taking your dog on walks, visiting parks, or bringing pals around. Socializing your puppy is vital to his happiness and comfort.

It’s important to socialize puppies early on with other dogs and people so they grow up to be confident with both. Socialization is more important than dog training for your Rottweiler’s health. Maintain positive social interactions with your dog. During these situations, he learns to be brave or fearful

4. Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement entails rewarding your dog for good behavior. The greatest approach to train your dog is with rewards. You’re speaking his language when you praise a good deed. Intuitive and curious, the Rotty will rapidly discover which behaviors make him happy.

Making your training look like a game is a great way to keep your dog engaged. You can give them cookies, toys, or praise. When training your Rottweiler a new command, immediately reward them.

5. Avoid Physical Yelling and Discipline

Never, under any circumstances, should you use physical discipline during training. It is detrimental to hit or scream at your Rottweiler if they do not follow your command. This serves only to terrify and even discourage them from learning the command completely. If you’re annoyed, go somewhere else for a while and try again later. Yelling at or losing your temper scares the dog and has the opposite effect on him.

6. Be Prompt With Your Reactions

Perfect timing is essential for good dog training. The Rottweiler that is disciplined for toileting in the house three hours before has no clue what he has done. This dog should not be punished at all, since punishment will never work.

It’s a training strategy that has been used for decades and is equally prevalent and ineffective. If you praise your dog when he sits down, then get up and walk away, he will be overjoyed. If you praise him for walking away, he’ll remember and walk away again the next time you ask him to sit.

7. Teaching Simple Commands

If you want to finish training your Rottweiler, you’ll need to teach it some simple rules. These commands must be learned through positive reinforcement. In order to have a well-behaved and obedient Rottweiler, you need to follow these simple rules.

Sit

As soon as possible, you should teach your Rottweiler to “sit.” People who follow this command will be able to get through the day. You can teach them to “sit” and do more difficult things like feed and groom them, which will make these tasks a lot easier.

To teach your dog to sit, you must first gain their attention. It’s better to use hands rather than voice since this teaches your dog to focus on you. Voices may be lost and disregarded. If you can get your dog to pay attention to your hands, they will be more likely to listen to what you’re asking them.

Paw

This is a simple command that can make nail trimming easier for you. This must not be taught until the dog knows the “sit” command because they must be sitting to execute it.

No

This is an important command to teach your dog. They must know when they are wrong. To teach “no,” use a strict tone. A strong, low voice is essential. Say “no” or another word you like, such as “stop” or “bad.”

This command is only used to correct or discourage your dog when he is doing anything wrong. Remember to use this command only when you see your dog doing something wrong. After he stops, continue about your business. If they persist in being obnoxious, tell them “no” and remove them.

Down

This is a difficult command to teach. Keep your instructions simple. Simply say the word “down” and make a hand gesture with your palm facing the ground. Laying down should be accompanied by a downward sweep of your hand toward the ground. This command should be taught once the dog has mastered sitting.

Stay

The most difficult command to teach. Because of this one, you’ll need the most patience. Your main responsibility is not to get irritated or discouraged. We can start attempting “stay” as soon as we’ve been taught the “sit” command. If you’ve taught your Rottweiler “down” after a certain number of repetitions, then this is probably much simpler for you.

Come

Only after your Rottweiler has mastered “stay” should you teach him or her to “watch.” This will be a great command for your Rottweiler to learn since they are a breed that adores your presence.

8. Patience

The most important and toughest step in teaching your Rottweiler is to relax. It takes time. Keep calm and collected. Remember that your dog is a friend who wants to make you happy. Your Rottweiler will follow your lead if you remain calm. And the results will be better with greater patience. Remember that when teaching your Rottweiler, you want it to be fun and easy.

Enjoy it. It’s not complicated or upsetting since it’s just a game for them and they like it. You will succeed if you remain calm and patient. Training a dog takes time and patience. As a pet owner, you are responsible for the long term. Training need not be tedious. You can make it as fun as you want. The more fun you and your Rottweiler have, the easier it is to train.
